Where should I Go for my Honeymoon?

The stress of the wedding is over!  Now it’s time for you and your new husband or wife to really get to know one another on a one-on-one level.  Choosing where you will have your honeymoon may not be a difficult choice for some, but for those who don’t want to simply go on a pre-packaged resort vacation to Mexico or the Caribbean, then you may want to consider some different ideas.

Do it, Cross Country Style

That’s right, pack up the car and a couple of suit cases and head East!  Or West… Or North… or what ever direction the wind takes you.  Driving vacations are fantastic for couples as they will be able to experience a whole lot of potentially different things during their adventure across tons and tons of land than they would laying on a beach and sipping a Mai Tai.

That being said, driving vacations are by no means an easy feat.  Both husband and wife will undoubtedly become tired and will both argue over who’s driving, where you’re eating, and when you’re pulling over so that your loved one can relieve him or herself.  Expect some arguments and battle scars.  This is a great introduction to how marriage really is, sans the romance of it all.

Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away!

There are a lot of cruise lines that offer special cruises to many areas of the world for couples.  Some of the most popular include the Caribbean, Mexican cruises, and European cruises.  These cruises will take you to several brand new and exotic locations you have never been to while also allowing you to mix and mingle with other newlyweds.  You will definitely be in good company if you decide to take a newlywed cruise!

A downside to this is that a lot of couples feel as if this type of a honeymoon infringes on their one-on-one time.  Being on a ship doesn’t afford you the possibility of drifting off and avoiding another person or couple, especially at meal times where everyone generally sits in the same area and at the same table for the next 7, 10, or 14 nights.

Time to Go Backpacking

As with the cross country driving, if you choose to go backpacking for your honeymoon expect there to be a lot of experiences, a lot of small fights, and a lot of wonderful memories to share.  Backpacking across Europe, North America, Central America or any continent with a loved one is a truly unique experience that is unmatched by any other.  Despite the quarrels that may occur, couples report feeling more satisfied and even more in love and knowledgeable of their new husband or wife after such trips.  Why?  It doesn’t involve drinking at 10am in the morning and napping on the beach or going or spa treatments.  It involves problem solving skills and discovery, two things that are key when it comes to a real marriage.
