The Vegas Wedding: How to Apply for a State of Nevada Marriage License

Getting married out of town?  Not a problem!  If you are like many couples across the globe, then you may have already planned or are considering having your wedding in exciting Las Vegas, Nevada!  Before you become wrapped up in the exciting night life and the gambling that the city has to offer, you need to be sure that you prepare properly for your State of Nevada Marriage License.

The good news about this license is that a whole lot of people from out of town apply for a State of Nevada marriage license, given that so many out-of-towners want to get married in the midst of the bright lights and grandeur of Las Vegas.  Here are some things that you will need to make sure you have on you so that you can make your marriage official in Vegas.

Your ID Requirements

For identification, you will need to have a valid piece of picture identification on hand.  If you have flown into Las Vegas from a different country, your valid passport will suffice.  You can also use items such as:

  • Your Driver’s License
  • An ID card from the DMV
  • Resident Alien cards
  • Military IDs
  • Birth Certificate

TIPIf you have a birth certificate that is from a foreign, non-English speaking country, the certificate will need to be translated into English and then notarized.

Tests

Unlike some other states and countries, you do not need to take any blood tests in order to be married in Nevada.

Previous Marriages

If you have been married before, make sure all of those divorce papers have been signed and filed and that you are officially DIVORCED.  All too many couples have thought that they were divorced years ago, only to discover that they forgot to sign on some dotted line on one of the many papers. The result: the divorce was not finalized and you cannot get married.

Make sure that you know the exact month and year of your divorce, and where the divorce took place.

Licensing Fees

If you are getting marred in Las Vegas, Clark County (the county that Las Vegas is in) will charge you a $60 USD marriage license fee.  Make sure you have the cash on hand, as they often do not accept checks, credit card or debit payments.

For other areas in Las Vegas, you may pay any where from $35 to $65 USD for a license.   They tend to only accept cash as well.

Hours of Operation

Though the hours of operation will vary from county to county, the Las Vegas Marriage Licensing office is open every day from 8am to midnight. It’s always a good idea to call the Las Vegas Marriage Bureau to confirm this information and any other you have gathered at phone number (702) 671-0600.

How to Obtain a Copy of the Certificate of Marriage

If you would like a copy of your certificate of marriage, you will need to contact the county recorder in the county you were married in.  So, if you are planning a Vegas wedding, that would be the Clark Country county recorder.  There will be a fee involved, so make sure you ask them how they will accept payment and how much it is before you head home.
