How to Save for your Honeymoon

Once engaged, we begin to tuck away a few extra dollars at a time so that we will be able to pay for our wedding that is one, two or maybe even five years down the road.  What ever it is, we want to know that we will be able to pay for it.

The honeymoon, however, is far less considered and leaves many brides and grooms scratching their heads.  How can we afford a honeymoon when we are already allocating all of our extra money into the “wedding fund”?  You can definitely save up for your honeymoon, and it isn’t as hard as you think it may be.  With a bit of time and creativity, you will be able to go on your post-wedding getaway.

How Much Is It?

The first thing that you have to think about is how much you have to actually spend on your honeymoon.  How much can you save in “x” amount of months until your wedding?  This will help determine exactly where you are going to go, or at least give you an idea of the location.

When you have found out how much it is going to be, you need to decide how much of every pay check you will be able to set aside.  You should not have to steal from your wedding fund to do this.  If at the end of the day all you have is $500 for your honeymoon, drive 5 hours to a beautiful B&B by the ocean or the lake and enjoy one another’s company away from the hustle and bustle of home.

Check Into Online Deals

The best way to find a deal these days is online.  You can go to a travel agent if you feel more comfortable doing so, but chances are that they are using the exact same websites as you, and yet they will charge you a fee on top of that.  Seems like a silly idea, right?

A lot of online websites will over 2 for 1 deals, free rooms, free food, and a load of other things. Definitely give them a call and see what else they can throw in for free while they’re offering.

Set Up a Honeymoon Bridal Registry

If you have all the plates, flatware and house appliances you could ever need, why bother setting up a wedding registry?  Set up a honeymoon registry!  A lot of travel companies will actually set up an account for both you and your spouse where your guests will be able to give you gifts by paying towards your honeymoon. This is a great idea for those who have overspent on their wedding and don’t have enough left for their honeymoon or for brides and grooms who just would not have the funds to take a trip otherwise.  People are happy to do it.  Just be sure to take lots of pictures!

What you are able to save now will definitely pay off in the end.  If you want that extravagant honeymoon, start squirreling away your money so you and your partner will be able to enjoy the honeymoon you have always dreamed of.
