Dressing for an Autumn Wedding

Most guests are used to attending a wedding during the balmy days of spring or the hot days of summer.  When it comes to attending a fall wedding, you may have to be a bit more prepared dress-wise than if you were to attend a beautiful summer wedding where the sun is almost always guaranteed to be keeping those rain clouds away and the temperature warm.  Here are some things to consider when you are planning your attire for an autumn wedding:

Where Is the Wedding?

Obviously if your autumn wedding is in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic you don’t have to worry so much about being a bit chilly during the wedding ceremony or the reception.  But you may have to take other things into consideration, such as whether or not it is the rainy season there during this time of year or the dry season.

No matter where you go, it’s important that you look into what the average temperature for the area is, what the humidity usually is, and how frequent it rains during that month.  You can even look at historical information these days that will tell you just how likely it is for there to be rain on that exact day, right down to the hour in some instances.

What are Other’s Wearing?

If you are not entirely sure what you should be packing, start by taking a “what are you wearing” poll amongst people who you know are going.  What are they wearing?  Are they going to wear a hat, a jacket, a sweater or shawl?  Are they wearing a longer dress or a shorter dress?  How the others are dressing will help you decide how you may want to dress as well.

Next, it’s time to look into what you actually already do have.  Flip through the clothes on the hangers in your closet and look through your drawers.  That skirt you haven’t worn for two years may be able to be coupled with a gorgeous shirt that will transform you into a stunning beauty for this autumn wedding.

What are Fall Colors?

When we think of fall, we think of those rich browns, brilliant reds and bright oranges, but there are a lot of other colors that are very fall-oriented, such as gray tones, black, silver, beige colors, and moss greens.

What Fabrics should I Use?

Autumn isn’t a particularly cold time of year in most areas (again, do your research!) so it’s a good idea to still choose a dress that is made out of a lightweight wool material, or go for silks. If you do need to keep a bit extra warm during those chilly fall evenings, you can consider finding or purchasing cover ups, such as:

  • Wraps
  • Shawls
  • Blanket serapes
  • Jackets
  • Capes

What about Footwear?

You can never go wrong with boots during a fall wedding.  It may be the smartest footwear choice a woman can ever make, given how the weather tends to be a bit less predictable and that you will need a bit more extra added warmth during these cooler months.
