Checklist for Buying a Wedding Dress

So you are ready to get married and get started on the process of shopping for the perfect wedding dress. But where do you start? What do you look for? How does it all begin?

It is time to stop worrying, and time to start enjoying shopping for your wedding dress. Follow along with this checklist and you may find that the experience is a lot more enjoyable than it has been so far.

It is important to start the shopping process early. A year before the wedding is the best time, but you can wait as long as 9 months before if you have ever things to do. If you do find that you have less than 6 months to go, it doesn’t mean that finding the right dress will be impossible. However, if you have quite a bit of time then you can hit every possible store, on and offline, and ensure that you make the right decision.

9 to 12 Months Before the Wedding

This is the time in which you should start picturing yourself in your dress and wondering what type of style that you want to wear. Think about certain adjectives that you would like to describe you on your wedding day. You should also try to decide what type of wedding you are going to have and how formal it is before you enter a wedding store. Hone in on different styles and trends and try to come up with a reasonable wedding dress budget that can make you happy but not cross the line.

8 Months

Narrow things done to two or three stores that you feel really good about, whether online or offline, and talk to other friends who have been married to see what they think. This is also the time where you will decide who you would like to come shopping along with you and get all of your gear ready such as your undergarments and shoes. You might even want to bring along tissues for when your loved ones see you in a gown for the first time.

7 Months

This is the time where you will want to narrow your choices down even more and reduce your options to just a few dresses. Try dresses on a few time and get input from all your trusted sources.

6 Months

Now you are going to want to make a final decision and order your gown. Make sure all your sizing is correct and that it is the dress you want, now sit back and wait for it to arrive.

5 Months

Now you are simply waiting for your wedding dress to arrive and should be shopping for all of your accessories. If you are planning on losing weight then this is the time you should start out on your fitness plan, but you should do so before your fittings begin in terms of alterations.

6 Weeks

Once your wedding dress arrives you will want to have your first fitting, so be sure to bring all of your wedding accessories and friends along as well. About a week later you will want to have your second fitting to make sure that it all fits into place and you are still in love with it.

In the end you will want to pick up the dress once it is perfect and ready about 3 weeks before the wedding. You should try it on one last time even if you are 100% sure it is perfect, just to be sure. And that is pretty much it. All of your work is done and you are ready for the fun, excitement, and happiness that will come along with the most important day of your life.
