So you’re not a big fan of the wedding gown, no matter how slim and trim or big and billowy it may be. It doesn’t matter if it’s white, ivory or red – it’s never been your “thing”, and it never will be. That’s fine and all, but if you’re a bride who is seeking alternatives to the old fashioned wedding gown, it can be hard to decide what to wear! So what should you wear to your wedding?
The Used Wedding Gown
For the slightly alternative bride, what you may want to consider is buying a used wedding gown. There are shops that sell only used wedding gowns that you can purchase, or if you like the thrill of the hunt, you can visit numerous second hand stores seeking your perfect used wedding gown. This is an especially fantastic idea for any bride who is having a vintage-themed wedding.
The Jeans and T-Shirt Wedding
If you are thinking of wearing jeans and a t-shirt to your wedding, you should put a lot of thought into both items of clothing that you will be wearing. Some brides and grooms will re-dress in the clothing that they first met each other in, or that you went on your first date in, which usually involves jeans and a t-shirt. You can also wear shirts and jeans that match one another or that are completely different. The key here is to choose jeans and t-shirts that hold some sort of a significance to both the bride and the groom so that there is a reason for you wearing them (unless you are choosing to wear the jeans and t-shirts out of carelessness).
The Bikini Wedding
What better way is there to shock your guests than to walk down the aisle in a bikini? If your groom is brazen enough, he may even be willing to wear a Speedo – but don’t bank on that. This is a particularly fun and different idea for anyone who has chosen to be married at a lot location, such as a destination wedding in Mexico or Aruba. The bride can wear a tasteful cover up and wear glamorous heels or flip flips with her bathing suit, or she can simply go barefoot.
The Comic Book Heroes
So you and your groom are total comic book nerds. Maybe you are a DC Comics fan and love Batman, but your groom is a Marvel Comics fan and adores Spiderman. You can both attend your wedding as your favorite comic book hero, as a “hero” and a “villain”, or any other comic book duo that your guests are sure to appreciate. You can use this same theme for any common TV shows that you both love, video games, anime characters… the list goes on and on.
TIP: If you do choose to go with this sort of theme, try to coerce your wedding party to get in on the fun and dress in theme, too. As an added benefit, they’ll have their Halloween costume for next year all ready to go!
